As the fall season approaches, people across the country will begin preparing their lawns for the cooler temperatures. For many this is as simple a task as raking the newly fallen leaves and keeping the grass mowed. However, there are several steps that any average homeowner can take this fall to make sure their lawn is adequately prepared for the coming winter season. These tips work for every lawn, in almost every climate — whether you fall into the do-it-yourself category of lawn maintenance or if you have a professional lawn care service provider.

Pruning and Trimming

Pruning and trimming your trees and shrubs is a good habit to adopt year round. It keeps the plants looking their best while also maintaining their health and stability. It is even more important to prune and trim these plants in the fall as winter approaches. The colder temperatures will likely result in a few more dead branches and limbs than usual, so it is important to remove these quickly for the health of the tree. Additionally, when temperatures drop even further, pruning larger, fuller trees and shrubs allows light to penetrate further into the center of the tree, providing warmth and nourishment. This tactic is especially important when dealing with coniferous trees and shrubs. continue reading…

It can be discouraging to look out at your yard during extremely dry weather conditions to see brown, brittle grass, especially when you have taken time to create a beautiful landscape for your home or business. Black Beauty tall fescue can eliminate this common problem forever, as it is a resilient grass that withstands harsh temperatures and even some drought conditions.

Known as a deeply rooted, cool season perennial grass, Black Beauty adapts well to a variety of soils, and even thrives on clay soils that are aerated annually. Black Beauty, like all tall fescue, sends a taproot about four feet into the ground, allowing it to access the moisture that other grasses cannot quite reach. continue reading…

Have you ever spent a fun evening on a friend’s well landscaped patio sitting near the warm glow of their outdoor fireplace? I have and it made me want to be able to experience this in my own back yard. I love to get involved in home improvement projects but for many this type of project is a bit overwhelming. To build a sturdy and safe outdoor fireplace there are a lot of things to consider and when building from scratch there is a lot of labor and skill involved.

It can be a bit expensive to hire a contractor for this, but outdoor fireplace kits offer another option. Outdoor fireplace kits are pretty much what they sound like; they are ready-made pre-measured, pre-cut kits that allow you to follow pretty simple instructions to fit the pieces together and construct your own outdoor fireplace. continue reading…

We recently had solar panels installed on the roof. Living in sunny Arizona, it seems a waste to not have the sun working for you. With the new tax incentives, my spouse, CB and I, decided to take action. As of March, we were connected to Salt River Project’s energy grid. Last month we generated enough excess electricity to receive an energy credit (we made more electricity than we used). Of course we didn’t have to use the air conditioning until a few days ago, so we may not see an energy credit until things cool down, but at least our bills will be significantly lower.

One of the interesting things about having the system is the two meters that operate like a bank account. One shows when the system is making energy (our gross). The other shows whether or not we are generating enough power on our own, or whether or not we have to rely on our backup system (our net). When we generate more than we use, there is a little dial that rotates counter clockwise. I love to go outside and see that little puppy running in reverse. I sing a little song to the tune of my high school fight song, “Go Westwood Go.” continue reading…

Link exchange is very helpful in building valuable business contacts and getting better rank with search engines. But those who tried to use traditional link exchange strategies face a very sad fact – only 10% of link exchange offers sent to relevant web sites get response. All the rest goes to trash bin; efforts wasted.

Why this statistics follows most of link exchange cases?

The market of link exchanges is overwhelmed. Those who think that is it possible to get few hundreds of reciprocal links and get 1st position within a couple of days spam web sites like crazy. I personally delete over 90% of link exchange offers that are sent to my web sites as these offers are absolutely irrelevant. continue reading…
