Dealing with low water pressure in your shower can become very much a nuisance, particularly if you are not used to it. This is especially the case if the water pressure becomes so low, that the flow of water comes down to a trickle. Low water pressure is normally caused by two different appliances being used at the same time, such as the washing machine and the shower. Your shower might be working fine one minute, however you notice a massive change in the pressure when another appliance in the house starts getting used.

In most cases, you will notice that the low water pressure occurs in other areas around the house. However, if you notice that the problem is only occurring in the use of your shower, than it will be advisable to get the shower checked for any obstructions that may be causing the low water pressure. continue reading…

So what are the reasons for it?

There could be various factors involved in experiencing low water pressure. The most common factors usually involve damaged or leaking pipes. Sometimes the pipes can have aged so much that they corrode. It is best to first identify what the main cause of the low water pressure is, before you commence the repair proceedings. continue reading…

For many families, the kitchen is the base of operations. It will be the first place everyone congregates in the morning and the site of some late-night snacks before bed. If you consider it in those terms, the kitchen has a big psychological impact on the family as a whole. However, it can be the room that gets the least attention when it comes to improvement projects. It will linger as the last bastion of the old home which in many ways the family has left behind. When you are ready to transform your kitchen into something new, see which of these styles work for your home.

1. Look back to the Old Country. In the design of rustic European models, change the room from a relic of the 1970s to a place more old fashioned but also much more stylish. Use wood carvings and molding to accentuate different corners and make grand gestures with furniture that is bigger and more ornate. The breakfast bar should take on a more substantial character, allowing the family to feel comfortable and formal at the same time.

One of the strongest natural materials known to man, the advantages of having granite countertops in a kitchen seem obvious. Countertops made of a stone that can only be cut by diamonds will likely stand up to the punishment dolled out by the average homeowner or family cook.

Granite has other advantages as well, however. In addition to being scratch resistant, granite will not yellow like Formica or hard plastic countertops, nor will it peel, stain, or crack. Hot plates are not necessary with granite countertops, and granite can withstand the hottest pots and pans, and a granite countertop can be used to make pasta and dough, as the finish is both resistant to bacteria, and polished so that it is non-stick. Lastly, granite adds value to a home, because it is both stylish and durable. continue reading…

After a number of years, there is no escaping the fact that things will have to be replaced around the house. Any homeowner who wants to maintain the value of a home (not to mention add to its value) must periodically address issues both big and small. In fact, a modest amount of work on a regular basis will often eliminate the need for bigger projects. A good example is dealing with kitchen cabinets that have seen better days. While deteriorated exteriors of cabinets will have a largely negative impact on the room as a whole, it won’t necessarily mean you have to initiate a large renovation project. Here are five tips for dealing with the problem of old cabinets.

1. Take into account the aesthetic issues. Every kitchen has a character that shouldn’t be disrupted. Over time, you may have taken the design in your kitchen for granted, but you shouldn’t ignore these principles when looking to renovate your kitchen. For example, if your cabinets were originally custom-made to accommodate larger or smaller spaces, the standard sizes will not be appropriate the second time, either. The slight increase in price will probably be well worth it.

2. Consider the long-term investment. New cabinets can entail a significant investment, but look ahead for years into the future. Saving a little bit of money on synthetic materials today might end up costing you more money in the near future. Therefore, is 30% less on cabinets now going to mean the same as two sets of cabinets within a period of ten years? The same goes for finding a great deal on cabinets that may not work as-is in your home. Can they be integrated within the overall design while maintaining their value?

3. Identify the type of durability your family needs. Some families do not inflict a significant amount of punishment upon their cabinets. Cooking and cleaning may have different focal points throughout the room. However, for families that generally cook at least two meals a day – and involve their cabinets in every process – only the most durable materials should be used. In most cases, this will mean wood. continue reading…

The government has been keen on implementing measures to get people to start taking steps in cutting down carbon emissions and reducing fuel bills. Encouraging people to invest in installing Thermostatic Radiator Valves (TRVs) has definitely been a step in the right direction, as heating controls can play a key part in achieving these objectives.

The government has particularly come under pressure to take initiative in reducing energy costs whilst cutting carbon dioxide emissions. Organizations such as Energy Saving have been set up to offer advice on how to improve energy efficiency, cut costs, and ensure best value.

What is a Thermostatic Radiator Valve (TRV)

TRVs sense the air temperature around them. They work by regulating the flow of water through the radiator which they are fitted to. However, it is important to remember that they do not control the boiler. TRVs are beneficial in providing much more focused control within a room. Therefore, you can set each TRV to a temperature best suited to each room. This is greatly beneficial in saving energy, as it offers the user the flexibility to have varying temperatures in separate parts of the home, rather than wasting energy heating a room that may not be occupied. continue reading…

One of the many privileges of living in the UK involves the fact that people are living much longer than ever before. This brings about with it the need to develop and adapt our range of products to fulfil the elderly needs.

Unfortunately many elderly people are not actually aware of the fact that they can change their bathroom to better suit their comfort. Most commonly, it is not until they suffer an accident at home or fall until they realise that they are actually struggling at home. Furthermore it does not help that there is a lack of style in many of the adapted bathrooms, which does not exactly push the elderly to make the necessary changes until they are forced to.
